Knysna Hotels
Knysna is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas of the Garden Route region. The town has been built on the banks of a lagoon that is home to over 200 species of fish as well as that magical little creature of the sea – the seahorse. It is small yet charming and very welcoming with plenty of coffee shops, craft shops and flea markets where visitors can browse through an array of colourful local crafts. The surrounding area consists of forests, lakes, mountains, rivers and beaches, providing endless opportunities for all manner of outdoor activities. Knysna is also a wonderful place to base yourself if you’re interested in the wildlife of this part of the country. Dolphins can be spotted year round from the beaches, while Southern Right whales can be seen during the months of August and September. The area is also home to the Knysna Elephant Park which provides sanctuary to a number of orphaned elephants from Kruger National Park.
The nearest major airport is Port Elizabeth airport, which is 238 km away. Visitors to the area also have the option of getting a domestic flight from other parts of South Africa to either George airport, which is 57km away or Plettenbergbaai, which is 28 km away.
Knysna hotels, from the most luxurious to the more modestly priced B&Bs, all have one thing in common – stunning locations and beautiful views. One that really does offer a breathtaking vista of the surrounding mountains and ocean is the five star Pezula Resort Hotel and Spa. Hidden away on an exclusive cliff-top retreat, it is surrounded by wild flowers and trees and overlooks a nature reserve. Within the hotel the atmosphere is calming and tranquil and a visit to this hotel is one you won’t forget in a hurry. Pamper yourself in the magnificent spa, enjoy delicious cuisine made from fresh local ingredients, or just revitalise the spirits with some fresh mountain air. But whatever you do, don’t rush anything!
Another fantastic spa retreat is the Tonquani Lodge & Spa, which really is a little slice of paradise. The accommodation consists of individual chalets and log cabins for families, six of which have their own spa baths and fire places. The spa itself consists of a therapy room – where you can get individually tailored treatments – a sauna, relaxation room and shower room. All the chalets and lodges are stocked with a full mini bar, tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolate and complimentary port. You’ll also find a TV, DVD player, hair dryer and air conditioning in each. Tonquani Lodge is happy to have children of all ages, and if you have little people under the age of three, cots can be provided at a small extra charge.
If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to five star luxury, The Russel Hotel is a very good budget option. Details like marble bathrooms and tasteful decor in all the rooms make this hotel stand out from other three star Knysna hotels. The staff of the hotel are very friendly, the service is excellent and the breakfast is one to remember! Keen golfers will be happy to hear that the hotel is very close to 7 major golf courses, including the breathtaking Pezula Estate golf course.
